2022-2023 Fellowship Recipients

The Ken Kennedy Institute Awards $170,000


Congratulations to the 2022-2023 Industry-Sponsored Graduate Fellowship and Ken Kennedy Institute Recruiting Fellowship Recipients!

The Ken Kennedy Institute’s annual graduate fellowship program awarded $65,000 to nine Rice graduate students in four departments within the George R. Brown School of Engineering.

Recipients use fellowship awards to further research pursuits, attend conferences, travel, and develop networking relationships in industry.

Industry Sponsored Graduate Fellowship Recipients

The Ken Kennedy Institute awarded $105,000 in Computational Science and Engineering Fellowships to seven incoming graduate students at Rice, within the George R. Brown School of Engineering and Wiess School of Natural Sciences.

The annual recruiting fellowship program aims to attract graduate students to Rice in the fields of high performance computing, computational science & engineering, and data science.

Abstract Submissions Due Friday

Prepare an extended abstract for presentation at the 2023 Energy HPC Conference


Accepted abstracts for the 2023 Energy HPC Conference will be asked to deliver a 20-minute presentation, including Q&A, as part of the conference program. We encourage you to review this abstract template and the following guidelines prior to submitting an abstract:​
  • One page (not including graphics, bio, and references as needed).​
  • Extended abstracts should contain: title; list of all author(s) with identifying and contact information; short abstract (not to exceed 350 words); up to 5 keywords; followed by short sections covering: (1) Motivation, (2) Hypothesis, (3) Methods and Results, and (4) Conclusion.
  • Extended abstracts must be uploaded as a PDF in EasyChair.​
  • The short abstract and the keywords from your extended abstract must also be pasted into the appropriate text box in the web submission form in EasyChair.

Draper Data Science Business Plan Competition

Join the UTSA School of Data Science for an info session on Friday, Jan. 20th at 2 p.m. CST for the Draper Data Science Business Plan Competition, designed for student entrepreneurs with business ventures who use data science to solve unmet problems. The competition will be held on April 20-21, 2023 in San Antonio. Apply for the opportunity to win up to $75,000 in cash prizes!

Houston Methodist Mentor Application

Apply by January 27, 2023

Interested in becoming a mentor for the Houston Methodist 2023 Summer Undergraduate Research Internship program? Mentor applications are due January 27, 2023.

As a mentor, you would be responsible for selecting a project for your student and be available for questions and guidance. Through this partnership, students would be onboarded by the Houston Methodist HR department, and be housed in your lab at Rice University. The 2023 Summer Programs will begin on May 30, 2023 and end on August 4, 2023.
