The Ken Kennedy Institute invites participation in the following categories: Faculty Members, Faculty/Staff Affiliates, and External Affiliates. We welcome faculty and staff with an interest in responsible AI and computing to contact our team at kenkennedy@rice.edu if you wish to be associated with the Institute in any capacity. Faculty Members
Members are tenure-track faculty or faculty on research and teaching tracks at Rice. They typically have PI status. They work primarily on AI and Computing or have a strong interest in using these technologies for their own research, or they study the intended and unintended effects of these technologies on our society. Members come from all parts of the university. Members are invited to engage with the Institute through our research clusters, fellowship programs, lectures, workshops, conferences, and other Ken Kennedy Institute activities. Interested faculty can contact our team to learn more about the benefits and responsibilities for this level of participation.
Faculty & Staff Affiliates
Affiliates are faculty and staff who are tangentially interested in the activities of the Ken Kennedy Institute and wish to be informed of related happenings and events. Teaching instructors typically fall into this category. This category also includes staff members from other Institutes and administrative officials at Rice who wish to follow the activities of the Ken Kennedy Institute. Affiliates are invited to Institute activities and will receive Institute communications. Faculty affiliates can transition to “member” status if circumstances align.
External Affiliates
External Affiliates are key stakeholders and partners of the Institute who do not have a formal appointment at Rice University, are visiting (e.g., as part of a sabbatical) the campus for a temporary appointment, or have a long-term engagement with the Institute. External affiliates benefit by being invited to select Institute events and activities, receiving Institute communications, and working with its members. This level of membership is offered by invitation only or as a transition from Member or Affiliate status upon leaving Rice University.
All external community members who wish to stay informed about the Institute's activities but do not meet the qualifications to be an External Affiliate are invited to join our community mailing list, where the Ken Kennedy Institute shares announcements and upcoming public events.
