Rice MRSEC - Let's Get Started!

Rice MRSEC Coordinating Committee
Naomi J. Halas and Emilia Morosan would like to let everyone know about the current MRSEC solicitation and how they plan to help foster and coordinate potential Rice IRGs (Interdisciplinary Research Groups).
  • Internal Submission Deadline for IRG Letter of Intent: Monday, November 22, 2021
  • Internal IRG Pre-proposal (White Paper): Monday, December 13, 2021
  • Notification to Move Forward: Wednesday, January 5, 2022
  • Funding Organization's Deadline: Monday, June 20, 2022 at 5:00 pm

In short, the initial brief IRG LOI will need to be submitted by Monday, November 22, 2021, then developed into a two-page IRG white paper, which will need to be submitted by Monday, December 13, 2021. The new firm deadline for the two-page white paper is December 13, 2021. If they don’t hear from you by December 13, 2021, they will assume that you are not interested in proposing a candidate IRG.

They will be holding an informational meeting to outline the process and answer questions you may have before the LOIs are due on Monday, November 22, 2021. Please complete the poll here.

Data4Good & Responsible AI-Automated Data Collection: How Do You Ensure Data4good?

November 30th | 10:00 - 11:30 AM | Post Conference Workshop | 2021 Ken Kennedy AI and Data Science Conference
Microsoft Israel R&D Centre’s Chief Scientist Dr. Tomer Simon alongside Bright Data’s CEO Or Lenchner will explore the different questions raised when approaching data at a mammoth scale. They will also discuss interesting cases that use and leverage data for battling climate change, fighting social injustice, and even saving lives.

The focus of this workshop is to champion a “do no harm” approach when accessing and approaching data using AI and take a closer look at the ethical, compliance-driven processes and questions one must address when doing so, even when approaching what is considered to be “public domain data.”
