How Does AI Reshape Material Science?

Although humanity has thousands of years of history in studying, creating, and tinkering with materials, materials science did not become a formal field until the foundation of the world’s first Materials Science and Engineering department at Northwestern University in 1955. The highly disciplinary nature of materials science requires an understanding of physics, chemistry, and biology, as well as chemical, mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering. A discovery in the field often takes collaborative work from top talents in these fields.

Unofficial NeurIPS Workshop

BRC Auditorium at Rice University | December 9, 2021 | 9:00AM - 5:00PM

Next Thursday, December 9th we will be an in-person “unofficial” NeurIPS Workshop at the BRC Auditorium on Rice University campus from 9AM to 5PM. In tradition of the conference, we will highlight the latest research on machine learning and artificial intelligence. Lunch will be included. Registration is free.

Please nominate your student, postdocs, or yourself to present recent work. Talks will be 20 minutes with Q&A. Email kenkennedy@rice.edu with Names and Talk Titles by EOD Wednesday, December 1st.

  • Explore D2K students’ end-of-semester projects covering a wide range of data science topics including computer vision, natural language processing, deep learning applications, web scraping, time series analysis, signal processing and more.
  • Interact with Rice students from the D2K Capstone, Introduction to Data Science, and Rice Data Science Club's DEEP program, and learn more about their projects in the poster session.
