Meet the November Member of the Month, Tolga Tezcan, Professor of Operations Management and Director of Business Analytics.

Tolga Tezcan teaches courses on Operations Management, Business Analytics and Data Mining at the Jones Graduate School of Business. His current research explores innovative ways of designing and managing health care delivery systems, and he has collaborated with customer contact centers and hospitals to address issues relating to access.

How do you explain your research in one sentence?
I strive to understand the reasons behind the lack of coordination in health care provision and to provide solutions to improve the current situation.


What is your favorite aspect of your research?
I’d like to think that my research improves, however small, the healthcare provided to people in the US and around the world, especially when they need these services the most.

You can now watch the recorded sessions from the 2022 AI in Health Conference and RAD Genomics Workshop on the Ken Kennedy Institute YouTube channel.

The videos cover diverse topics and themes from our invited speaker including genomics, imaging, transparency and interpretation of health, and adaptive health. Technical sessions are also featured on the channel.

New Seed Grant Program

Rice University Announces New Collaboration with Houston Methodist Academic Institute


Rice University and the Houston Methodist Academic Institute have launched a seed grant program to foster innovative research between their faculty, collaborating researchers and clinician scientists in robotics, imaging, nursing, cardiovascular engineering and psychological and behavioral health.

The seed grant program is facilitated by Rice's Office of Educational and Research Initiatives for Collaborative Health (ENRICH) on behalf of the Ken Kennedy Institute and the Department of Bioengineering.

Call for Abstracts: Energy HPC Conference

Due by January 20, 2023


You are invited to prepare an extended abstract for presentation at the 16th Annual 2023 Energy High Performance Computing Conference hosted by the Ken Kennedy Institute at Rice University on February 28 – March 2, 2023.

The Energy HPC Conference is the premier meeting place for the energy industry to engage in conversations about challenges and opportunities in high performance computing, computational science and engineering, machine learning, and data science.

We encourage prospective speakers to submit abstracts that highlight technology, use-cases, and solutions that support data-driven discovery and decision making. Accepted abstracts will be asked to deliver a 20-minute presentation, including Q&A, as part of the conference program.

Abstracts are due January 20, 2023.

As part of this initiative, Scientia will hold a conference focused on the exploration of the dynamic interactions between technology, society, and culture.
